(Neil Gaiman is a fuckin weirdo and believe me, I don't like him as a person even if I enjoy his creations. If you don't already own the sandman comics, maybe don't buy them directly so as to not give him any more money. He sucks ass and it's beyond frustrating that he wound up the way he did when his works were so beloved.)

The Sandman is a comic series published under Dc's Vertigo division, written by Neil Gaiman. The story primarily surrounds Dream (aka The Sandman), his elder sister Death, and the various stories occuring around them. They are a part of The Endless, which also involves their siblings, Destiny, Destruction, twins Desire and Despair, and the youngest, Delirium. Beyond being most folks' first introduction to DC's Vertigo, it's also become an icon of the goth subculture- due primarily to the influence of Death, who appears most often as a typical image of the 1980's goth scene. From the teased-to-high-heaven hair of Death, Delirium, and Dream, to the flowing black coats and Death's ankh-shaped pendant, the influence of the gothic subculture on The Sandman (and vice versa) is clear to see.
